Chief Judge Joseph P. Farina of Florida’s Miami-Dade Circuit Court signed an administrative order in October 2007 authorizing the collaborative model of family law to be used in that court. Proponents say collaborative divorces are less expensive and faster, and easier on children. Miami-Dade’s collaborative practice will differ from West Coast models because if the parties cannot reach an agreement, then their collaborative attorneys will have to drop out and each party must find divorce litigating lawyers.
